The images of the devastating Attica forest fire on 11-13 August 2024 shocked the whole world. The heroic struggle of the firefighters and volunteers prevented an even bigger disaster, however, the extent of the destruction is still enormous. Seeing this, at the initiative of the Hungarian embassy in Athens, a collection of donations began with the participation of the embassies of the European Union based in Athens. The donations, which included basic food, cleaning and disinfecting agents, diapers, disinfecting cloths, water and food for animals that became homeless in the fire, were delivered and handed over to the municipality of Vrilisia on August 16. All this would not have been possible without the immediate and generous offers of H.E. Ms. Gerda Vogl and the Austrian Embassy, H.E. Mme Laurence Auer and the French Embassy, H.E. Mr Andreas Kindl and the German Embassy, H.E. Ms Ieva Briede and the Latvian Embassy, H.E. Ms Lina Skerstonaité and the Litaunian Embassy, H.E. Mrs Susanna Terstal and the Embassy of The Netherlands, Mrs. Ewa Panczak Chargé d’Affaires and the Polish Embassy, Mme Miora-Florina Pitut Chargé d'Affaires and the Romanian Embassy, H.E. Mme Marcela Hanusova and the Slovakian Embassy. The Hungarian ambassador in Athens H.E. Zsolt Sándor and the Hungarian embassy express their highest gratitude for the donations.
